dataThis section is aimed at providing relevant data to assist local partners who are working with Local Area Data on topics such as Local Area Agrements (LAAs). The data is structured to provide data over time on a range of subjects that are aimed at helping monitor progress towards targets and priorities set out in national framework local data themes. The data is set out under the following headings.

Local Area Data
Demography – population change, density and by age group
Children & Young People – including absence, achievement levels at Key Stages 1 to 3, GCSEs, young people not in education, employment or training (NEET), achievement of levels 2 and 3 by age 19, participation in HE
Economic Development – including GVA per head, employment in high-technology and knowledge-intensive sectors, business formation and survival rates, employer engagement measures
Labour Force – economic activity rates, unemployment, jobs density, job-related training
Qualifications & Skills – workforce qualifications, levels of literacy and numeracy, levels of skills gaps, skill shortages and hard-to-fill vacancies
Pay – average rates of pay by gender (residence and workplace-based)
Working Hours – full and part-time working, long working hours


The data contained here is generally presented down to the smallest geographical area possible. In many cases the data goes down as far as local authority district (LAD) level, but several of the datasets – particularly relating to educational achievements – only go as far as county or unitary authority areas.
